[Internet] Space Hulk on a Budget

For those who just can’t seem to get enough of Space Marines versus Genestealers with the 2009 release of the 3rd edition of Game’s Workshop’s beloved Space Hulk boardgame (or who can’t seem to get $99 dollars together to add it to their game collection), the internet offers some noteworthy substitutes…if one is willing to forego cardboard and plastic miniatures for pixels and sound effects.

Derelict:
For immediate gratification (of the man killing alien killing man variety) look no further than Kongregate’s Derelict, a Flash arcade-style vision of the struggle between human and alien in deep space. It utilizes a 2-D birds-eye perspective and graphics adopted from the now-defunct Vassal40k, so if they looked familiar, now you know why.

Space Hulk: retro
If one has the capacity, the where-with-all, and the proper operating system or an acceptable DOS emulator, you can ressurect the classic Space Hulk PC and Playstation game from way back in the ‘90s. It’s another game “inspired” by the turn-based-conflict of the Space Hulk board game, this go around with a first-person shooter engine that promotes a claustrophobia to enhance the tension between terminators and genestealer. Fast, brutal and fun.
