[Rules] Space wolves could be broken…
So the other day I was thinking about Wolf Guard and Logan Grimnar. Specifically them counting as troops and it got me thinking about being able to run them with other squads such as scouts, long fangs and bikes (my guess also the assault troops once an FAQ comes out). So I started thinking maybe you can have an entire army of scoring units with Logan?
So we LPM guys and the rest of my group started discussing this. First there is the rule for taking Logan that Wolf Guard units count as troops. Then we looked at the Wolf Guard entry and they actually leave their pack(unit) to lead the other one. So it looks like they are no long part of a Wolf Guard Unit to be able to score. The only slightly grey area is if they are still Wolf Guard or do they become the unit type the join?
We decided that they are no longer scoring once they leave. Now this brings me to wonder if they join a unit of bloodclaws or any of the others with berzerker’s charge, do they also get this ability? There is going to be a list of items we need clearly FAQ’d and I think we should start a list to send to GW en mass.
Evan - 2009-11-01: I think that the wording from Logan’s entry puts the brakes on any attached scoring Wolf-Guard funny business. Only “Wolf Guard Units” score, and I wouldn’t suspect attaching one to a unit of say - long-fangs changes their entry from “Long-Fangs” to “Wolf Guard Unit”.
I think that scoring stuff was just wishful thinking.

I would assume they did. Why wouldn’t they? They attach to a unit and act as members of the unit. Even the wording in their entry implies they act as unit upgrades - or squad leaders. I don’t see why they wouldn’t benefit from unit specific abilities.
Volth - 2009-11-07: Looking at the formal layout of C:SW every unit type is presented serperately, with their own special rules and profile, without any reference to army building. So I am tempted to say a Wolf Guard stays a Wolf Guard when joining a Blood Claw pack, no matter how it is resolved in the army list. My conclusion is that Wolf Guard don’t aquire any special rules while joining another pack, though they might be target/subject of certain special rules.
